You have recently purchased a Linksys wireless-G router and must integrate within your existing broadband Internet connection. Configuring and Installing a Linksys wireless-G modem allows you to free yourself of cables and browse the Internet wirelessly. It also allows you to connect multiple computers to your broadband connection instead of a single user via a wireless connection.
.Identify a power source for your Linksys router and turn it on. Your router must be located next to a telephone or cable outlet. Identify whether you are a (DSL) or a cable modem. If you have to connect your router to a telephone jack, you are a DSL customer. If you have to connect your router to a cable outlet, you are a broadband cable customer.
.Connect either the cable outlet from the wall to your router or connect the telephone cord from the wall to your router. Locate an unused port on the back of your router. Connect one side of the Ethernet cable to the empty port and the other side of the Ethernet cable to the back of your computer.
.Power on and off your router and reboot your computer to receive a proper IP address. You need a proper IP address to connect to the admin portal.
.Open the administrator portal and type “192.168.1.1.” A login page appears. Type “admin” in the password field and leave the login name blank. This is the default login to router.
.Walk through the wizard on the administrator portal page. You will be asked to change the login and password to secure your access the portal page. If you did not purchase a static IP address, you router will be automatically configured or you will be prompted to enter the specific address during the wizard. At the end of the wizard, click Finish and you can browse the Internet via your Linksys wireless-G router.
